St. Philip the Apostle Youth Ministry
Youth ministry is more than programs and events. It is the response of the Christian community to the needs of young people, and the sharing of the unique gifts of youth with the larger community. To be most effective, this is a ministry to, with, by, and for young people that involves their families, their parish community, and the larger community. At the heart of ministry with young people is the presence of caring, supportive relationships where youth experience the Good News. A comprehensive approach to youth ministry utilizes eight components as a framework: advocacy, catechesis, community life, evangelization, justice and service, leadership development, pastoral care, and prayer and worship. These components guide our efforts in proclaiming the Good News, connecting young people with the faith community, and calling our young people to the challenge of discipleship. -National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry
Youth Ministry is an active part of St. Philip the Apostles Church. All youth in grades 7-12 may participate in a variety of experiences that help them grow in their faith, and form and strengthen bonds with God, the church, one another, and the world. Youth Ministry events are open to ALL, even if you’ve never attended an event before, youth in grades 7-12 are always welcome there is no official “joining”.
A calendar of events is set each year and includes events both at St. Philip’s and in the community. The Youth Ministry Calendar includes spiritual, social, and service events with emphasis on the Catholic faith. Youth Ministry differs from regular religious education classes and does not replace religious education classes. It is a separate program that also strives to strengthen the youth’s relationship with Jesus and understand what it means to be the Church of Christ, but is not a classroom setting.
While some events off site may cost a small fee, most gatherings are free and supported by St. Philip’s parish. Financial burdens should not prohibit or exclude any youth from coming to paid events. We hope all will find a warm, welcoming and caring community of faith, hope and love in the Youth Ministry Program at St. Philip’s.
For more information or to inquire about upcoming events, please email Jazzy Rakszawski, Youth Minister at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the parish office.
Parents and other adults are always welcome and needed to assist with Youth Ministry Events. All adult volunteers (age 18 and older) MUST have diocesan clearances. Please contact the parish office if you are interested in volunteering, but require diocesan clearances.
We look forward to seeing you this year!
